With social distancing measures resulting in events being cancelled left and right, another lockdown looming and growing feelings of uncertainty for the future, it would be fair to say that 2020 has been a difficult year for us all. But even in these confusing times, there is still so much to celebrate, and at Hog Roast Portishead, we have been working tirelessly in the background to implement COVID-friendly changes to our services so that you can continue to enjoy our mouth-watering feasts while keeping safe.
So, when Danielle from Boat Folk Marinas Ltd was given the go-ahead to start planning for Boatfolk’s annual Big Weekend, her first port (too cheesy?) of call was to get in touch with Hog Roast Portishead. Right away, our catering manager, Alistair was able to put the client’s mind at ease in regards to the safety measures we now have in place, which was paramount due to this event having gained interest from upwards of 100 people.
To keep in line with the government’s guidelines, Hog Roast Portishead and Danielle had come up with the idea that our team would serve dishes from the southern slow roast menu from the side of the marina to one boat of guests at a time. The guests were very supportive of this sail-thru arrangement, and on the day of the event, each cluster of boating enthusiasts donned a face mask and unboarded briefly to collect their food before returning to their boats to eat.
Amazingly, the weather remained on our side, and for three hours, the Hog Roast Portishead catering crew worked like a well-oiled machine to serve up platefuls of the delicious food to all 130 people, while The Missing Cat Band played live music from their make-shift stage and drinks were served from the floating bar. To top off the event, Danielle had organised a fun quiz which really brought the community together – albeit in a socially-distanced way!
Even with the strict measures, everyone had an absolute blast at this event and we have heard from the Portishead Marina that so many people have since reached out to them with compliments about the food Hog Roast Portishead served.
