Nowadays, as people are becoming more environmentally aware, they are beginning to question what their favourite brands are doing in order to limit their impact on the environment. So, we hope you will be glad to know that here at Hog Roast Southsea, our commitment to sustainable practices is not a gimmick.
Since our inception almost 30 years ago, we have been motivated to do our bit for the planet, and over the years, this has grown to become a core aspect of our business values. Our efforts include:
1) Local Produce
As many of you already know, all of the ingredients we use at Hog Roast Southsea – that’s everything from fruit and veg, all the way to our meats – are sourced from award-winning local farmers, butchers and greengrocers.
Not only does this give our food the ultimate flavour, and by choosing to support our community we are helping to boost Shropshire’s local economy, but by limiting our food miles, we are also keeping our carbon footprint to a minimum.
2) Eco Dining
Instead of disposable polystyrene boxes, which, as we all know, are terrible for the planet, Hog Roast Southsea prefers to use compostable boxes or our increasingly popular bamboo wooden crockery and matching cutlery sets for our events. Our clients are always thrilled with the quality of our plates, especially the bamboo option, which adds a rustic vibe to any celebration.
Furthermore, our caterers utilise reusable tablecloths, cutlery, plates, platters and baskets where possible.
3) Saying No To Food Waste
Did you know that 3.6 million tonnes of food is wasted in the UK each year? At Hog Roast Southsea, we don’t want to add to this problem, so in the instances where food is leftover at an event, we give the host two options.
We can either parcel up the food and leave it for them to eat over the coming days, or if there is simply too much, we can take it to local homeless shelters where it will be used to feed the hungry.
4) Selling Our Used Machines
Hog Roast Southsea’s caterers need our machines to be in tip-top shape for commercial catering, which means, after many years of use, we might need to upgrade the devices our team have been using. In the same token, our customers will often wish to trade their old machines in for a newer model. But instead of discarding these used machines, we clean them up, give them a thorough inspection and list them for sale.
Not only does this extend the life of our grills, but it also helps small businesses just starting out or hobbyists to get their hands on a top-quality machine at an extremely discounted rate.
Going Forward
That’s just a little snippet of the things Hog Roast Southsea does to make the planet a greener place, but we have no plans to stop there! We plan to push ourselves even harder, and in time, we hope to switch out our use of gas for eco-burners!
